Vintage Design
This Xinjiang-crafted low, long sideboard made circa 1920 is unique in its versatility. It can be used as a TV stand with plenty of storage space for large TVs or alternatively, as a dining room sideboard. It was originally made with deeper proportions and permanent panels at the front, and was used as a daybed in Xinjiang. Reduced in depth and with doors and drawers added, it has been converted into a more functional cabinet. Retaining traces of its original brightly painted colour, the front of the daybed is decorated in geometric carved patterns. These patterns reflect influences from neighbouring Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, which commonly feature this design. Largely stripped of the paint, its beautiful natural pine colour can now be fully appreciated.
