Contemporary Design
Named for the Batswana word for mushroom, this stool was inspired by traditional African seating and produced by local artisans from sustainably harvested wood.
The designer behind this piece, award-winning Canadian Patty Johnson, has a reputation for exploring globalization and sustainability in her practice. In 2007, she teamed up with the Botswana-based studio of Peter Mabeo to develop a collection that harnesses the talent of African woodworkers. The elegant Thuthu Stool is an exemplar of ecologically and culturally sustainable contemporary craft.
This piece is available in red, black, white, or striped, and each piece is unique with slight variations resulting from the techniques of the finishing artisans.
