1980s Couroc of Monterey Red Cross 100th Anniversary Commemorative Plate Hand Inlaid

Offered is a Couroc of Monterey bowl commissioned as a commemorative piece on behalf of the American Red Cross for their 100th anniversary. Phenolic resin, Monterey, California 1981. Decorated with the official Red Cross seal, 1881-1981.
Guthrie Courvoisier and his wife, Moira Wallace, established the Couroc Company in Monterrey, California in the late 1940s. The company worked with a stable of artists to produce inlaid decorative accessories/household objects using a proprietary and patented phenolic resin material until they closed operations in 1998, their 50th anniversary. Items like these were original designs hand inlaid with stones, shells, coral, coins, woods, metal, and sometimes found objects. The phenolic resin base was extremely durable and resistant to fading, alcohol, liquid, and heat, and were used by the US Army as well as numerous airlines.
